Criminals raided ECL’s colliery and looted cables worth lakhs, youth dies in bombing
Dhanbad: Armed criminals raided the Chapapur Colliery of Eastern Coalfields Limited in Nirsa police station area of Dhanbad district and looted cables worth about Rs 10 lakh. Sanjeev Kumar Koyari, a rural youth, died after being badly injured in the bomb blast by the fleeing criminals. The incident happened late on Friday night.
Angered by the death of the youth, the villagers have stopped the work of the colliery since Saturday morning. The angry people also assaulted the colliery manager Ajit Kumar Singh.
It was told that between 1.30 and 2 am, 30-40 criminals attacked the colliery office. They were armed with weapons like bombs, guns, pistols, swords. At that time there were only security personnel there, whom the criminals took hostage and snatched the keys of the store room and looted cables worth lakhs of rupees. Hearing the noise, many people of the colony near the colliery woke up.
During this time, the fleeing criminals threw bombs targeting people. Sanjeev Kumar Koyeri was badly injured in this attack. He was taken to Ashrafi Hospital in Dhanbad for treatment. He was referred in critical condition. After this the family took him to Raniganj Hospital in Bengal, where he died during treatment. As soon as the news of the death was received, the local people became agitated.
The protest is continuing since Saturday morning by keeping the dead body in the colliery office. Sanjeev was the son of local CPI ML leader Kashinath Koyari. People allege that due to lack of proper security arrangements in the colliery office, criminals carry out incidents of cable robbery every day.
Due to the protest by the villagers, the work of the colliery has come to a complete standstill. After receiving information about this, many officers including MLA Aparna Sengupta, former MLA Arup Chatterjee and SDPO Amar Kumar Pandey reached the spot. (IANS).
