Crisis on Agricultural University land
Hospice. After Himachal Pradesh Central University, now clouds of crisis are looming over the existence of Agricultural University, Palampur. Under the land grant pattern, the land of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Agricultural University, located in Palampur, which came into existence in 1978, has so far been distributed to half a dozen institutions.
Land has been given to some and preparations are underway to give it to some. In such a situation, the dream of building North Western Himalayan Regional Central Agricultural University will never be fulfilled. For this also at least five thousand hectares of land is required.
A proposed concept note for setting up a Central Agricultural University from Himachal Pradesh in the year 2018-19 has been sent to the Central Government. Along with Himachal, it also has the claim of Uttarakhand Agricultural University and J&K Agricultural University. Agriculture Scientists Forum has also sent this proposal to the Central Government through various mediums.
So that Himachal Agricultural University can be brought among the leading universities of the country as a research university, but the way the land area of Palampur Agricultural University is being destroyed to serve political interests, its basic future is also in danger.
Can deepen. If we look at the condition of the land given so far by the Agriculture University, 123 kanals of land has been given for building a degree college. Similarly, 50 kanals of land has been given to build a science museum, 111 kanals of land has been given to IGFRI i.e.
Indian Grass Land Forage Research Institute and two kanals of land has been given to the Electricity Board, while 83 kanals of land is being given to build a heliport and now to build a tourism village. It has also been proposed to give about 2900 kanals of land.
In such a situation, the university will be left with only about 280 hectares of land out of five thousand. Academics and intellectuals, upset with such attitude of the government towards the universities of the state, are saying that no one discusses such matters with the visionary people in the state. Future generations will have to suffer the consequences of this.
