Cuddalore: 25-year-old mentally ill woman booked for murdering grandmother
Chennai: A 70-year-old woman was killed by her 25-year-old granddaughter at her home in Peralaiyur, Cuddalore on Saturday, reports Daily Thanthi. The woman has been arrested by the Cuddalore police. According to the police, Sivasathya (25), who is allegedly mentally ill, killed her grandmother Dhanalakshmi after a heated argument over the woman being unmarried. Sivasathya lived with her mother Pushpavalli and grandmother Dhanalakshmi in Peralaiyur near Virudhachalam. The woman’s father Panneerselvam died 15 years ago. Sivasathya’s sister Sivasankari moved to Karuveppilankurichi after marriage, while her brother Sivakumar died about a decade ago. Sivasathya reportedly became upset after her brother’s death and is undergoing treatment. For the past few days, she had been arguing with her grandmother, who kept asking her why she had not yet married.
During a similar argument on Saturday, Sivasatya took a rod lying nearby and attacked Dhanalakshmi with it, police said. The elderly woman fell in a pool of blood and died on the spot. Virudhachalam Inspector Murugesan and Karuvepillankurichi Sub-Inspector Sivaraman rushed to the spot upon receiving information and conducted investigations. Police have sent Dhanalakshmi’s body to the Virudhachalam Government Hospital for post-mortem. Meanwhile, when police questioned Sivasatya about the incident, he reportedly admitted to killing his grandmother. Since he threatened to kill himself if the police arrived, he has been put under house arrest. Karuvepillankurichi police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
