Cyclone warning issued in Cuddalore, Puducherry; people advised to avoid going to the beach

Tamil Nadu: In view of the formation of Cyclone ‘Tidwa’ in the Bay of Bengal, Cyclone Warning Pole No. 2 was hoisted in Cuddalore and No. 1 in Puducherry on Thursday. Fishermen and coastal residents have been advised to avoid venturing into coastal areas as a high tide warning has been issued.

In this regard, A. Nithya Priyadarshini, Assistant Director of the Cuddalore District Fisheries (M) Fishermen Welfare Department, issued a warning notice:

An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale was recorded off Sumitra Island in the Indian Ocean. A high tide warning has been issued for the Nagore-Pattinachery and Karaikal coasts on Friday (November 28) by the Indian National Ocean Information Services Centre.

As a result, it is reported that sea waves will rise between 2.7 and 3.3 meters between 8:30 pm and 11:30 pm on Friday.

Fishermen and those living in coastal areas should avoid going to sea and coastal areas. They have also warned that fishermen should keep their boats, nets, and fishing gear, including engines, in safe places.

Fishermen advised to return to shore: Fishermen in Puducherry on fishing boats and country boats are advised not to venture into the sea until further notice. Furthermore, any fishermen fishing in deep sea areas are requested to return to shore immediately.

Furthermore, we request the Coconut Boat Owners Welfare Association, Pipe Boat Owners Association, fishermen’s village panchayats, temple management committees, and public groups to properly make this announcement so that fishing boat owners in their villages can be informed, said A. Mohammed Ismail, Director of the Fisheries Department.

Cyclone Warning Bell: Following the formation of a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal, a second cyclone warning bell was hoisted at Cuddalore Port on Thursday at around 3:30 p.m.

Similarly, Cyclone Warning Cage No. 1 has been installed.
