Cyclonic circulation in Bay of Bengal, increased concern about rain in the state
Bhubaneswar: Cyclonic circulation over Bay of Bengal, onset of rain is causing concern for holding Durga Puja in Odisha, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said due to cyclonic circulation formed over Bay of Bengal on October 18, 2023 Warning of possible rainfall has been issued in Odisha.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, a cyclonic circulation was detected in the lower tropospheric level over southeast Bay of Bengal on October 18. The system is expected to move north-westwards, and as a result, a low pressure area is likely to develop over central parts of the Bay of Bengal around October 20.
The onset of this rain is causing concern for Durga Puja celebrations in Odisha, with reports from the regional meteorological (MeT) office indicating possible disruption in pujas and darshan.
According to the latest weather bulletin, the festivities during Durga Puja may be overshadowed by the possible formation of a low pressure system, which may cause heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Apart from the cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal, another cyclone has formed in the south-west Bay of Bengal, and another cyclone is expected to form in the eastern part of the Bay. The trajectory suggests that any low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal may gradually move towards Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Along with this, a low pressure area may also form in the Arabian Sea within the next 24 hours. Various weather models are indicating favorable conditions for the development of a low pressure in the southeastern Arabian Sea, which may further intensify into a cyclone. If it turns into a cyclonic storm, it will be named ‘Tej’.
