Death of trapped leopard in ASR district due to negligence

Kakinada: A male leopard of three and a half years was trapped in one of the traps set by local farmers in the villages of Papampeta and Yellavaram of Addateegala mandal in the district of Alluri Sitarama Raju died because he did not receive timely treatment.

The farmers had prepared nets to catch the monkeys, which were ruining their crops.

However, a leopard was trapped in one of these nets with its waist attached to a wire of the net during the early hours of Thursday morning. The wire continued cutting the leopard until forest officials arrived at the site to be informed by the farmers, although the farmers pushed a tractor under the leopard to support it and provide water.

Oficial forest divisional de Rampachodavaram (DFO) G.G. Narentherin and other officials reached the spot and informed the zoological officials of Visakhapatnam, who reached the spot on Thursday night.

Tranquilize the leopard and remove the hair. By then, the leopard had died, because both his kidneys were damaged.

However, there are allegations that an overdose of tranquilizers may have caused the leopard’s death.

The zoological officials and a medical officer conducted an autopsy on the leopard.

Later, his body was buried in the presence of the Mandal Tehsildar and the interested fiscal officials.

According to the post-mortem report, the kidneys and legs of the leopard were damaged.
Forest official S. Sehansha said that if he had tried to cut the wire around the leopard’s waist, it was possible that the wild animal would have attacked the humans. Let us tell you that the leopard had died due to his frantic efforts to save himself.
