Decision on Abhishek Banerjee’s petition depends on forensic report of files downloaded during raid: Calcutta High Court

The final verdict on the plea filed by Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to get his name out of the purview of the central agency’s probe into taking money for school jobs in West Bengal will depend on the forensic report of the downloaded personal files . A single judge bench of Calcutta High Court Justice Tirthankar Ghosh said this on Saturday.
An Enforcement Directorate (ED) official downloaded 16 private files from an office computer belonging to Sujay Krishna Bhadra, the main accused in the case, during a raid there last month.
After being informed that the 16 downloaded files have been sent for forensic examination, Justice Ghose directed ED officer Mithilesh Kumar Mishra and Kolkata Police’s Cyber Crime Division officer Amitabh Sinha Roy to submit the report of the 16 downloaded files and Instructed to collect the copies and submit them to him. bench.
After that, the ED will submit its report to the court, following which the bench will pronounce its verdict in the matter.
Justice Ghose also said that since the final verdict would depend on the forensic report, the last day for pronouncement of the verdict could be postponed if necessary.
The next hearing of the case will be on September 4.
The cyber-crime division of the Kolkata Police started probing the matter after a complaint was filed by an employee of a corporate entity linked to Bhadra, where the ED had conducted raids last month.
The probe agency had told the city police that 16 personal files were unknowingly downloaded by one of its officers from the computer of the said corporate entity while he was looking for a hostel seat for his daughter in a prestigious engineering college in the state. .
The ED also claimed that the files were inadvertently downloaded after the raids were completed and this was done under CCTV surveillance in the presence of the company’s employees as well as independent witnesses present at the spot.
