Delhi Coaching Centre Tragedy: High Court transfers UPSC aspirants death investigation to CBI

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday (August 2) transferred the investigation into the deaths of three UPSC aspirants in Old Rajinder Nagar to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

During the hearing on Friday, the two-judge bench of Delhi High Court, comprising acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, said, “Having regard to the nature of the incident, and to ensure that public has no doubt with regard to the investigation, this court transfers the investigation to the CBI.”

Since the central vigilance commissioner exercises supervisory power, this court directs the commissioner to appoint a member to supervise the probe,” the court order added.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said MCD officials are not bothered and it has become a norm.

The court cited the seriousness of the incidents and the potential involvement of corruption by public servants as reasons for this decision.

Delhi High Court directed the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to nominate a senior officer to oversee the CBI probe into the deaths of the Civil Services aspirants.
