Delhi liquor scam: Supreme Court reserves verdict on Sisodia’s bail plea
New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its verdict on the bail plea of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia in the alleged corruption and money laundering case.
Justice Sanjeev Khanna and S.V.N. Bhatti’s bench heard senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Sisodia, and Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S.V., appearing for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Listened to Raju’s arguments.
On Monday, the top court had told the CBI and ED that they cannot keep Sisodia in jail forever in the Delhi Excise policy cases and had asked the ASG when the arguments on the charges against Sisodia would begin in the trial court.
“Once the charge sheet is filed in a case, arguments should begin immediately,” the bench told Raju.
The ASG claimed that the ED has enough evidence to show the offense of money laundering and tampering of evidence by destroying mobile phones. Therefore, bail should not be granted.
In March, ED had arrested Sisodia in a money laundering case related to the CBI FIR.
Sisodia has been in custody since the CBI arrested him in February.
The AAP leader has approached the top court after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him bail in separate bail pleas in May and July. (IANS)
