Delhi Nepali man arrested for murdering live-in partner and minor daughter

A 38-year-old Nepali national, accused of murdering his live-in partner and her nine-year-old daughter in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, has been arrested in Delhi, police said on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Deepak Bahadur. He was wanted in a double murder case registered at the Kotwali police station in Rudraprayag on March 7.

According to police, the incident came to light on March 6 when officers received a report of a foul smell emanating from a rented room in Rudraprayag.

A local resident told police that Bahadur, who was living there with a 34-year-old woman and her minor daughter, had not been seen for several days.

A police team arrived at the scene and found the room locked. Upon entering, police found the bodies of the woman and child in a decomposed state, indicating that the murders had occurred several days earlier. Bahadur was missing from the scene, raising suspicion of his involvement in the crime. A case was registered and an investigation was initiated. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akanksha Yadav said, “During the investigation, Uttarakhand Police traced his possible location in Delhi and sought help in apprehending him.”

Police later spotted Bahadur near the New Delhi Railway Station. Due to heavy crowds in the area, police initially had difficulty identifying him. However, the team later arrested him when he was trying to board a train to Mumbai, the officer said.

During interrogation, Bahadur told investigators that he had met the woman on social media and later started living with her and her daughter. He later discovered that the woman was involved with another man, leading to frequent arguments between them.

Yadav said, “During one such quarrel, he allegedly killed the woman and child and fled the scene.”

The accused has been handed over to the Uttarakhand Police for further action. Further investigation is underway in the case.
