Delhi: Son sentenced to life imprisonment for shooting his mother

Delhi: A court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for shooting his mother to death in 2012.
Additional Sessions Judge Baburu Pan heard arguments on the sentence for Ramesh, who was previously convicted under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
The prosecution stated that Ramesh was guilty of shooting his mother, Shanti Devi, to death on May 15, 2012, in a property dispute in Vijay Colony area of North Delhi.
During the trial, Additional Public Prosecutor Kanshyam argued that the accused deserved no mercy.
He said, “On the date of the incident, the accused had no serious motive or reason to kill the deceased. Considering the close relationship between the accused and the deceased, the accused should be given the maximum punishment.”
The court’s order in this case, issued on December 15, stated that Ramesh was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹500. A fine of ₹40,000 was imposed for the offense punishable under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Earlier, on December 6, the court had stated in its order that the prosecution had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Ramesh had shot his own mother with a country-made gun.
