Despite the ban, big LED boards started appearing
A series of large LED panels have started appearing in several parts of the city, projecting commercial advertisements without permission from the Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP).
However, civil society took a cautious approach, i.e. despite a ban on these types of advertising stunts, no action was taken against the advertisers.
Some of the locations where these LED panels have been installed are Brigade Road, Dickenson Road, Jayanagar, MG Road and Hebbal. In some areas, these advertisement boards are placed inside private property but show commercial advertisements which are against the norms of the corporation.
After the BBMP banned all types of commercial parades in 2018, the civic body gave away advertising rights to agencies that had constructed bathrooms, elevated walkways and bus parades, despite these agreements being void once and for all. Analysis was done for. , Various interested parties said, since all other forms of advertising are banned, outdoor advertising rates have also been increased.
In a declaration given to DH, BBMP’s Revenue Department Special Commissioner Munish Moudgil said that LED advertising panels were prohibited and he had ordered commission zonals and commission groups to remove them.
BBMP East Zone zonal commissioner Snehal R said they have removed some LED boards but have not decided to remove some due to the tribunal’s suspension order.
