DGP Shatrujit Kapoor strict to stop sale of illegal liquor
Chandigarh. Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujit Kapoor held a meeting of all the senior police officers of the state and directed them to take the strictest action against the vends selling illegal liquor in the state and ensure that they are closed. Laxity in such matters will not be tolerated at all. He was presiding over a meeting held with senior police officers through video conferencing at the police headquarters. He said that the recent death due to drinking poisonous liquor in Yamunanagar of the state is extremely unfortunate. To prevent the recurrence of such incidents, it is necessary that everyone should make efforts in one direction so that those selling illegal liquor can be tightened.
In the meeting, the Director General of Police expressed concern over the incident of sale of illegal liquor by legitimate liquor contractors and said that since checking of liquor vends is within the jurisdiction of the Excise Department, hence all the officers should coordinate with the Excise Department officials so that A meeting should be held with liquor contractors and they should be warned not to sell this type of illegal liquor. Along with this, the excise officer should also give monthly information about liquor contracts and khurdas to the police.
He clearly told all the police officers present in the meeting to ensure that the sale of illegal liquor or khurdas is completely stopped in their jurisdiction. He directed to include all the cases of death due to consumption of illicit liquor in the last 10 years as identified crimes so that they can be disposed of quickly and the culprits can be punished. The criminals involved in such cases, who are currently out of jail, should be closely monitored and their current activities should be ascertained. Along with this, the history sheet of those criminals who commit this type of crime twice should be opened.
Kapoor ordered Superintendent of Police Yamunanagar to thoroughly investigate the recent poisonous liquor incident and trace all the culprits involved and arrest them as soon as possible. All Superintendents of Police have also been instructed to establish coordination with Indian Medical Associations to ensure that if any case of suspicious/unnatural death or incident in any hospital comes to their notice, the same should be immediately reported to the police so that timely investigation can be done. Necessary action can be taken by the police immediately.
He said that the local people are appealed to immediately inform the police about the people making such illegal khurdas and spurious liquor so that appropriate action can be taken in time. The name of the person giving information in this regard will also be kept secret. In this series, today on 11th November, as per the instructions of Director General of Police, Haryana, action was taken against illegal sale of liquor/Khurdas in all the districts of Haryana, during which a total of 203 cases were registered in the entire state and 194 accused were arrested. Along with this, 5521 bottles of country liquor, 48 bottles of English liquor, 1440 liters of liquor and 183 bottles of raw liquor were recovered. ADGP Law and Order Mamta Singh, IG Law and Order Sanjay Singh and many other police officers participated in the meeting through VC.
