Dhemaji United Bodo People’s Organization ‘Supply of textbooks to Bodo-medium schools’
Lakhimpur: Dhemaji district committee of United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) has demanded the Assam government to supply adequate quantity of textbooks to Bodo medium schools and appoint adequate teachers in them at the earliest.
The organization further demanded that the government notify Bodo villages for delimitation of constituencies under the Bodo-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) and make the concerned autonomous council a larger body to ensure inclusive development of the people of the Bodo community outside the BTR. Dhemaji District Committee of UBPO raised these demands once again as per the decisions taken in the first general body meeting of the newly formed District Committee, which was held at the head office of the organization Sanjari NWGR, Simen Chapori. The meeting was presided over by newly elected President Ratiram Basumatary, while General Secretary Dipankar Narzari explained the objective of the meeting. Participating in the programme, UBPO Central Committee President Manuranjan Basumatary greeted the newly selected office bearers of the District Committee and delivered his lecture on the aims and objectives of UBPO and the duties and responsibilities of the office bearers as well as workers. He said the UBPO should play an important role in securing the political, socio-economic, educational and land rights of the Bodo people living outside the BTR and finding permanent solutions to various issues in the community including village notification and constituency delimitation. Among those who participated in the meeting were UBPO Central Committee Vice President Jonaram Brahma and Treasurer Bistiram Narzari, who also demanded the government to permanently solve the problems of flood and erosion in Dhemaji district. It is to be noted here that this Dhemaji District Committee of UBPO was formed in the delegates’ session of its 5th Biennial Session held last December 16 and 17 at Mingmang in which Ratiram Basumatary, Sansuma Basumatary, Robin Boro, Dipankar was the president. Narzari, Swarga Basumatary, Arun Kumar Basumatary as Vice President, Ashok Daimary as General Secretary, Somnath Mohilary, Raju Basumatary, Roopnath Swargiari, Sukumar Brahma as Assistant General Secretary, Toroni Basumatary, Sukleshwar Swargiari, Danswara Musahari, Dhananjay Basumatary as Secretary, Anil Boro Speaker. And Manoj Basumatari will be the deputy speaker.
