Diarrhea outbreak: Government forms team to investigate causes

Himachal Pradesh government has constituted a team of health experts to investigate the causes of diarrhea outbreak in Tauni Devi area of Hamirpur district. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.

Chief Medical Officer Hamirpur Dr RK Agnihotri told PTI on Tuesday that more than 290 people were found suffering from diarrhea and dysentery in 27 villages of Tauni Devi in the district, out of which 186 have recovered, while four are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Used to be.

26 teams of the health department visited 27 affected villages and distributed medicines.
Health officials said the numbers were rising and reports on new cases would be known by the evening.
The five-member rapid response team (RRT) includes Dr Yashwant Ranta and Dr Kiran Mokta, deputy directors of the health department and Dr Anurag, a local doctor and lab technician from the department of microbiology and medicine, Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital (IGMCH), Shimla. Are. Parikshit, Dr. from the Department of Microbiology, Medical College, Hamirpur.

The team members interacted with patients at Tauni Devi Civil Hospital and also collected water samples from the affected areas.
The District Health Department team has also sent stool samples of patients from the affected areas to Medical College, Tanda for testing and the report of these samples will make it clear what is the cause of the disease.
Officials said most of the patients are from Gwaradu, Lohakhar, Tauni Devi, Chahad, Tapre, Bari, Mahade, Ghalot, Siswa, Barin, Khandehra, Ladayoh and Jhanikkar villages.

A male patient said, “Three days ago I suddenly felt pain in the stomach and started vomiting, after which I started taking medicines at home, but when I came to know that diarrhea had spread extensively, I stopped taking medicines on Monday. Went to the hospital.” The man in his 30s told PTI.
Jal Shakti Department spokesperson said that till now no adverse report has been received regarding their water.
Despite this, the department is busy in chlorination of sources as well as taking samples from other areas.

This is the third time in the last 14 months of Congress rule that an outbreak of diarrhea has been seen in Hamirpur district.
In January 2023, about 1,000 people were affected by diarrhea in Rangas area of Nadaun, the home assembly constituency of Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.
In June 2023, diarrhea again spread for the second time in ten panchayats adjoining Hamirpur city.
