History of Doda Burfi
It is believed that when India and Pakistan were not partitioned, a wrestler living in Sarghoda, Punjab wanted to prepare a good diet for himself. Thought of making them something tasty and healthy for myself. While experimenting one day, he prepared a sweet dish.
Doda barfi made from experiment
Hansraj Vig was also very fond of cooking, so one day he went to his kitchen and started boiling milk in a pan. Add sugar to it and cook till the milk is reduced to half (Methods for thick cream). After this he put dry fruits in it and when the milk started to turn brown, he kept it in a tray greased with ghee to set. When he tasted the final result, he liked it very much and thus Doda Burfi was prepared.
How Barfi got its name Doda
You must be thinking that it is okay to make barfi, but how did it get the name doda? In fact, the Vig family shifted to Punjab, India during the partition. The recipe he had prepared in Pakistan, he also took it forward. The place in Kot Kapura where the Vig family lived is known as Dodo Street. After all, the name of this sweet also became popular after the name of that street.
The shop is running since 1912 till today
The shop which was started in Pakistan is still being run by the Vig family. When people tasted Doda Barfi, people from nearby villages also came to buy sweets from his place. It started becoming popular not only in India but also all over the world. The traditional recipe of doda barfi has been passed down from generation to generation in the Vig family. The Vig family also has a website called Royal Doda Sweets, where you can read about them.
