DMDK’s Premalatha accuses Palaniswami of not fulfilling promise of Rajya Sabha seat

Tamil Nadu: DMDK General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakant on Sunday accused AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami of betraying her promise of a Rajya Sabha seat. Speaking to the media after visiting the Arunachaleshwara Temple, she said she is actively campaigning for the DMDK and its alliance partners in Tamil Nadu. She claims that their alliance will win over 200 seats in this election and re-elect M.K. Stalin as Chief Minister.

Premalatha accused Palaniswami of treating her with respect and dignity. She said that Palaniswami will focus on his critics after the election results, but only realize their importance after leaving the alliance. She cited a letter given by Palaniswami, stating that the two signed in 2024, promising a Rajya Sabha seat. However, Palaniswami is now refusing to honor it.

She said, “Due to respect in politics, I haven’t made this letter public until now, but now I have to show it to him.” Showing the letter, Premalatha said that Palaniswami had signed it in 2024. She asked Palaniswami why he didn’t mention the year, and Palaniswami replied that the year wasn’t mentioned in letters since the time of MGR and Jayalalithaa. Premalatha said she trusted him, but now he’s speaking beyond belief.

Premalatha said that the contest in the Virudhachalam, Salem, Polur, and Dharmapuri constituencies is primarily between the DMDK and PMK. She alleged that Anbumani was campaigning in a false manner. She clarified that both Anbumani and Palaniswami should stop making false statements on caste and family issues and maintain dignity and respect during their election campaigns.

Premalatha’s statement has become a topic of discussion in political circles. He also asserted that his alliance will strengthen with public support and be able to form a stable government in the state. Reflecting the DMDK’s commitment and the strength of the alliance, he said that their objective is not merely power but adherence to democratic process and dignity.

This controversy has made the issues of alliance and Rajya Sabha seats a major topic in the election environment in Tamil Nadu. Allegations and ideological differences between party leaders have created a stir in local and state-level political circles.
