Margao: As part of the ongoing investigation in a dowry case, a police team from Maina-Curtorim visited the residence of the accused Partorsiana Fernandes de Gounloy, Nuvem. Fernandes, booked by the Maina-Curtorim police, is accused of brutalizing his sister by demanding dowry.
Police sources said the purpose of the visit was to gather more information related to the incident. Accused Petorsiana Fernandes has submitted a request for release without anticipatory bail before the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Margao. The tribunal has scheduled further arguments for December 11.
PSI Prafulla Giri interrogated Fernandes at the Commissariat of Maina-Curtorim on Tuesday.
A case was registered on November 30 under Section 304-B of the IPC against Petursiana Fernandes based on the orders of Collector Adjunto and Magistrate Sub Divisional (SDM) Salcete. The order has been issued against him over allegations of cruelty, abuse and dowry demands that allegedly led to the death of his 30-year-old daughter Samantha Fernandes from injuries at her Gonloy residence in Nuvem on August 30 at the GMC.
The case gained attention when Samantha’s mother, Ana Maria Dias, submitted a petition to the chief government and police authorities of Goa, requesting action against her mother-in-law on charges of dowry, mental harassment and murder.
