Drug-related cough syrup worth 1.5 crores seized from land, found in fixed food

West Bengal. Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have recovered 62,200 bottles of Phensidyl cough syrup in a major operation near the India-Bangladesh border in Nadia district. Their estimated value is being told to be Rs 1.4 crore. This recovery was made on Friday on the basis of a tip-off in Majdia town of Nagahata area of Nadia district.

According to the report, the BSF said that the jawans recovered this consignment of Phensidyl from three underground tanks. Two of these tanks were hidden under dense vegetation, while one tank was built under a hut made of CGI sheets. This consignment was kept for smuggling across the border to Bangladesh. A BSF spokesperson said that this recovery is a major setback to smuggling efforts in the area. Investigation is on to trace the network of smugglers and gather information about their other associates.

Phensidyl cough syrup is a banned narcotic in Bangladesh. It is often smuggled from India to Bangladesh, and there is a huge demand for it there. The BSF said that such operations are helping to break the smuggling network and strengthen border security.
