Drug smuggler arrested from Nepal border

Surat (IANS). Fugitive drug smuggler Salman Zaveri has been arrested by the Gujarat Police from near the Nepal border while he was trying to flee the country on expiry of his parole in a drug case.

Zaveri was granted interim bail for 10 days from May 9, but instead of returning to jail, he went into hiding.

Surat’s crime branch team caught him at Haviganda in Bihar’s Kishanganj just before crossing the Nepal border.

Investigation revealed that Zaveri had reached the Nepal border via Mumbai and his intention was to flee to some other country. The operation was led by the Surat Police.

Salman Zaveri, also known as Aman Mohammad Hanif Zaveri, first came on the police radar in September 2020, when he was caught with six packets of different drugs in his car.

After his arrest, the Crime Branch sent him to Lajpore Jail. The matter is under investigation.
