Drugs worth Rs 325 crore recovered in two proceedings, accused in police custody
Raigarh: Raigarh Police has seized MD drugs worth Rs 325 crore in two operations. Police officials on Sunday raided a pharmaceutical company named Aanchal Chemical in Khopoli located in Raigarh district. Police have arrested three people in this case. The accused were running MD Drug Company in ‘Aanchal Chemical’ located inside India Electric Poles Manufacturing Company located in Dheku village of Khopoli.
Apart from this, the police also seized raw chemicals used in making MD drug powder worth Rs 15 lakh and machinery used in making MD worth Rs 65 lakh.
Konkan Range IG Praveen Pawar said on Monday, “Police raided a pharmaceutical company ‘Aanchal Chemical’ at Khopoli in Raigad district and seized MD drugs worth Rs 107 crore and arrested three drug smugglers. During his interrogation, the police got information that there were drugs.” Some are hidden in other places. Police raided that warehouse and seized 174 kg of MD drugs worth Rs 218 crore in the international market. So far, medicines worth Rs 325 crore have been seized in both the proceedings.
Raigarh Police said that all three were produced in the court and the court has sent them to police custody till December 14.
Raigarh Police further said that they suspect that the medicines found in the warehouse were kept there for the last two months. The accused used to supply drugs to various countries through Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) by preparing fake documents.
The police is now investigating how many consignments of drugs the accused have supplied to which countries and at how many places the drugs have been hidden.
