Supporters of poll parties disrupted traffic on AB Road

There was heavy traffic jam on AB Road from Shivaji Vatika intersection to GPO intersection for most parts of Sunday due to the rush of supporters of political parties at the Nehru Stadium, where counting of votes for the assembly elections was underway. Since morning, a huge crowd of supporters of both BJP and Congress had gathered near Nehru Stadium. There was a large crowd standing on the road and some people were sitting on the roadside and footpath, causing inconvenience to the motorists.

Since the BJP party office is located opposite the Nehru Stadium, by noon party workers started celebrating the victory with the candidates on the road, causing traffic jams on both sides of the road. Within a few hours the traffic pressure increased, resulting in bumper to bumper traffic as there was little space for vehicles to move.

Traffic police personnel were deployed to control the situation, ensuring that passengers do not have to wait for long. Police barricaded a portion of the road from Shivaji Vatika intersection to GPO intersection, restricting entry of four-wheelers on the road and diverting them to BRTS Road. Only two-wheelers were allowed to use the road. Some enthusiastic BJP supporters, excited by the victory of their candidates, climbed the divider to cross the road from the Nehru Stadium side towards the BJP office, causing problems for I-buses to move smoothly.
