E-challans issued for garbage dumping in Tirupati, CCTV helps identify offenders
Tirupati: The Tirupati Municipal Corporation (MCT) has initiated steps to fine people who throw garbage on roads and in drains across the city through an e-challan system. Violators will be identified through CCTV cameras being installed at various locations. Municipal Commissioner N. Maurya on Thursday reviewed the installation and operation of the CCTV cameras with representatives of the Smart City Project and other stakeholders. He stated that the cameras will help identify those who throw garbage on roads or in drains, after which fines will be imposed through the e-challan system.
Maurya stated that CCTV cameras are being installed at 20 major junctions and 111 locations across the city as part of the Smart City Project. The cameras will be connected to an Integrated Command and Control Center for monitoring. He added that the surveillance system will help prevent garbage from piling up in various parts of the city. Those who throw construction and demolition waste on roads will also be identified and punished through the cameras.
The commissioner said that CCTV cameras are also being installed at nine locations along the S.V. A system is being developed on Zoo Park Road to monitor the movement of wild animals and help authorities take precautions. An Adaptive Traffic Control System (ATCS) is also being installed at 20 junctions in the city. This system will change traffic signals based on vehicle movement, which is expected to reduce congestion at busy intersections and help emergency vehicles like ambulances pass faster. Littering, construction waste, and traffic violations will be recorded by CCTV and ATCS cameras, and fines will be imposed through an e-challan system.
