ED lawyer’s statement on Kawasi Lakhma’s arrest
Raipur. Former Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma has been arrested in the Chhattisgarh liquor scam case. On Wednesday, he reached the ED office for questioning for the third time, during which he was arrested. Earlier, ED officials had questioned him for 8 hours each time twice. Before entering the office, Lakhma said that, today I was called for questioning. That’s why I have come. The country runs according to the law, if I am called according to the law, then I will come 25 times. Lakhma said that, I will answer whatever questions the ED officials ask. I will respect them.
ED lawyer Saurabh Pandey said in the case that the investigating agency is preparing to present former minister Kawasi Lakhma in the court and seek remand. Regarding Kawasi’s son, he said that he does not have information about his appearance yet.
ED is investigating the Chhattisgarh liquor scam case. ED has filed an FIR in ACB. In the FIR registered, there is a mention of a scam of more than two thousand crore rupees. ED found in its investigation that during the tenure of the then Bhupesh government, the scam was carried out through an illegal syndicate of IAS officer Anil Tuteja, MD of Excise Department AP Tripathi and businessman Anwar Dhebar. ACB is investigating the FIR registered by ED. According to the information received from ACB, from the year 2019 to 2022, illegal liquor was sold from government liquor shops by affixing duplicate holograms. Due to which the government has suffered a loss of revenue worth crores.
