Edappadi Palaniswami vacates official residence, shifts to new bungalow in Royapettah
Tamil Nadu: In a major development related to Tamil Nadu politics, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has vacated his official residence on Green Ways Road in Chennai. He subsequently moved to a private bungalow in the Royapettah area this morning, May 29th.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party claimed to have emerged as the largest political force by winning 108 seats. The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) secured 59 seats, while the main opposition party, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), secured 47 seats.
These election results have seen a major shift in the political situation in the state. The AIADMK, which was the ruling party in Tamil Nadu for nearly ten years from 2011 to 2021, has lost its status as the main opposition party and has fallen to third place. Due to the change in status as an opposition party, Edappadi Palaniswami’s position as Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly also ended. According to the rules, once the status of Leader of the Opposition is revoked, the eligibility to hold a government residence also ends. Consequently, he had to vacate the government bungalow on Green Ways Road.
After the completion of the process of vacating the government residence, Palaniswami moved with his belongings to a new private bungalow in Royapettah in the morning. Administratively, this move is being described as being in accordance with the rules and security arrangements were also made.
