Efforts should be made to plant at least one thousand saplings in every village of UP: Chief Minister Yogi

Lucknow (IANS). Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presided over a special cabinet meeting on Tuesday. He gave guidelines regarding the successful organization of ‘Van Mahotsav-2023’ on July 22 and said that efforts should be made to plant at least one thousand saplings in every village.

CM Yogi said that the target is to plant 35 crore saplings in this year’s campaign. Efforts should be made to plant at least one thousand saplings in every village. Make preparations to plant five crore saplings simultaneously on 15th August. Van Mahotsav has become a mass movement in Uttar Pradesh, which is blessed by nature and God. In the last six years, more than 131 crore saplings have been planted. Along with planting saplings, full care is also being taken for conservation.

According to CM Yogi, this year’s ‘Van Mahotsav’ has to be made successful. The goal of ‘Green Uttar Pradesh’ will be fulfilled only with the participation of the common people. Programs like Prabhat Pheri, slogan writing, essay writing, elocution competition, wall writing should be continued in schools. The rainy season has started. It is ideal for plantation. After the successful organization of awareness week, on July 22, ‘Van Mahotsav’ will have to join the program of mass plantation. Forest land, village panchayat and community land, expressway, highway or four lane road, canal, development authority and railway land, private premises along with medical and educational institute land can be used for plantation.

He said that at least one thousand saplings should be planted at the gram panchayat level. Set targets for plantation in urban wards as well. Get saplings planted in cow shelters. Plant a tree guard to protect the plant. Connect private sectors, NGOs, religious/social organizations.

Yogi said that the availability of plants is very important for the success of the massive plantation drive. In such a situation, the Department of Forest and Climate Change should make all necessary arrangements in time. Prepare hi-tech nursery. Proper preparation and publicity should be done so that everyone can get high quality plants. Geo tagging of plantation sites should be done.

The Chief Minister said that under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA), there is a ‘Mukhyamantri Krishak Vriksha Dhan’ scheme for plantation of saplings on private farm bunds. If the beneficiaries of MNREGA conserve their land by planting a minimum of 200 saplings, then the government will give an incentive of ₹ 50,000 in three years. Our target is to increase the total green area of the state from 9 percent at present to 15 percent by 2026-27. For this, people will have to be connected with the message of ‘plant trees and save trees’.

He said that people should be encouraged for intensive plantation in the bank areas of other rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Saryu. Incentives should also be given to those who join the programme.
