Eight burnt to death due to flames in hospital
Bareilly: Eight people, including a child, died after their SUV was hit by a vehicle and caught fire in Bareilly, police said on Sunday.
The driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle after the tire burst. He jumped over the barrier on the other side of the road and was hit by a person traveling in the opposite direction, he said.
It was told that the accident happened on Saturday night near Dubhaura village of Bhojipura area on Bareilly-Nainital road.
Police said that when the police reached the area, the SUV was surrounded by flames.
Superintendent of Police Sushil Chandrabhan has confirmed the death of eight people including a child.
According to the police, the SUV belonged to goods owner Sumit Gupta, who had given it to Furkan. Asif, a customer resident of Narayan Nagla’s villa, called Gupta in his SUV on Saturday morning and said that his niece Furqan wanted to take him to attend a wedding in Bareilly.
He told that on Saturday night Furkan and some other people had gone to Faham Lawn in Bareilly to attend the wedding.
The SUV went out of control just one kilometer away from Bhojipur police station. He told that according to eyewitnesses, the speed was so high that the divider of the four lane broke and the car reached the other side and the bat in the car went towards Nainital.
When the car caught fire, the people inside were trapped because the car doors did not open, probably due to a malfunction of the central transmission system.
Police suspect Furkan to be among the dead, but all the victims, residents of Bahedi area, have not been identified yet.
Some passers-by moved forward to break the glass, but due to high clouds no one was able to reach near the car. During this time he was also walking on foot and came under fire. Some people brought fire extinguishers from a nearby gasoline pump and tried to extinguish the fire.
Bareilly CFO (Chief of Bomberos) Chandra Mohan Sharma said that at present it is difficult to tell the reason for the accident.
A tire may burst or the driver may fall asleep and lose control or become unconscious.
The reason will become clear after the forensic team investigates.
Minister-Maharaja Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over his demise.
