Employment and rights issue in Tripura: Congress surrounds the government

Agartala: The Tripura Congress staged a silent protest on Sunday, demanding the repeal of the VB-G-RAM-G Act, which they say undermines citizens’ rights and imposes additional financial burdens on the state.

The protest took place near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Circuit House in Agartala.

Tripura Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha said similar demonstrations were being conducted across all nine districts of the party in the state.

Saha stressed that MNREGA was originally introduced to guarantee 100 days of work and protect public rights.

He alleged that the current government has effectively dismantled the scheme and dishonored Mahatma Gandhi, who symbolizes India’s struggle for freedom.

According to him, the BJP and RSS are behind this “conspiracy” against citizens’ rights.

Former minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, who also joined the protest, said that sit-ins are being held nationwide to demand the reinstatement of MNREGA.

Barman stated that the VB-G-RAM-G Act limits the right to work and wages, imposing a selective approach to employment in certain areas or villages.

He described this as a threat to basic rights and called for the reintroduction of MNREGA.

He added that the move disrespects Mahatma Gandhi and claimed it reflects the government’s attempts to erase his legacy through extremist forces.
