Encounter between cow smugglers and police, 6 arrested
Lucknow. Police arrested six cow smugglers in an armed encounter in Sirsia area of Shravasti district on the night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Five people injured by police bullets have been admitted to the hospital. Superintendent of Police Prachi Singh said that on the basis of information, the police set up a blockade near Shahpur Shivdin village and challenged the cow smugglers passing by, on which they tried to escape by firing at the police team. In retaliation, five smugglers were injured while the sixth was caught after a short chase.
During this time, the bullet proof jackets of three police officers were also hit by bullets but they narrowly escaped. He said that all the arrested cow smugglers are said to be from the surrounding area. During the search, several cows were found tied near the accused at the spot. They were rescued and fed fodder. After this they are being sent to the cow shed. Five pistols and cartridges have been recovered from the accused. Apart from this, many tools of cow slaughter including knife, banka have been recovered from them. The age of all the accused is between 35-40 years. He also has a criminal record. At present five have been admitted to the hospital. One has been sent to jail.
