End of four decades of musical journey.. MTV music channels permanently shut down

MTV, the popular music channel that entertained millions of music lovers around the world for four decades, has permanently ended its 24-hour music broadcasts. MTV, owned by Paramount Global, has completely stopped its continuous music telecast as of December 31. This marks the end of a golden chapter in the history of music television. The final show, which aired on New Year’s Eve, left fans emotional. The last video aired was the song “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Bugles, which was the first music video to be aired during MTV’s launch on August 1, 1981. A special attraction was that the last video aired was the song “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the group.
MTV has already announced that it will be shutting down its 24/7 music channels from 2025. Accordingly, popular channels like MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV, and MTV Live have gone completely off-air in the United Kingdom. In particular, the last broadcast of MTV 90s, which featured the Spice Girls’ song “Goodbye,” became an even more emotional moment for music fans. Currently, only MTV logos are visible on these channels. It is reported that MTV content can now only be viewed on MTV HD.
Neither MTV, nor its parent company Paramount or Skydance, has made any official announcements about the future of MTV’s music channels in the US. However, Paramount CEO David Ellison said that there are plans to revive MTV and other cable channels. MTV, which started in the US in 1981, entered the United Kingdom and Ireland in 1987. Initially limited to music videos, MTV has gradually shifted to reality shows and entertainment programs. Analysts believe that these changes are also one of the reasons for the closure of music channels. In addition to the UK, countries such as Australia, Poland, France and Brazil are also reported to be closing dedicated music MTV channels. As part of cost control measures, prestigious events such as the MTV Europe Music Awards and the MTV Latin America MIAW Awards have also been canceled.
