Enrique Nortje and Sisanda Magala will have to undergo fitness test before the World Cup.
Johannesburg (IANS) The availability of South Africa cricket team’s fast bowlers Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala in the World Cup-2023 to be played in India will be determined after the fitness test this week.
The fast bowling pair were named in South Africa’s initial 15-man squad for the World Cup, but have since played only one match each in the recent 3-2 ODI series win over Australia because Nortje has a lower back injury, while Magala has a left knee injury.
According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, a final decision on their inclusion will be taken before South Africa depart for India on September 23, with early indications that both are at risk of not traveling for the ODI World Cup.
Head coach Rob Walter said, “We wanted him there. It’s difficult to include injured players in the squad for the World Cup because then you have to give a lot of reasons to be left out.”
If either Nortje or Magala miss the World Cup, South Africa are most likely to include fast bowler Andile Phehlukwayo.
