Excise department seized 33 thousand liters of liquor in one month
Raipur: Due to the Model Code of Conduct implemented in the state for the Assembly Elections 2023, a series of investigation and raid actions by a joint team of officers and employees of the Excise Department to strictly ban the illegal manufacturing, storage, sale, distribution and transportation of liquor. During the Model Code of Conduct, the Excise Department has so far seized 33,084 liters of liquor, 2,07,250 kg Mahua Lahan, 5 kg Ganja and 63 vehicles, whose market value is Rs 3 crore 11 lakh 83 thousand 223.
Special Secretary cum Commissioner Excise Shri Mahadev Kavre said that in view of the second phase of elections, instructions were given to seal the excise centers as per the declared dry period and to take effective action against the sale of narcotics by conducting intensive patrolling in their area of influence during the dry period. Action has been taken to declare liquor shops nearby and the border states as dry period by the respective districts.
It is noteworthy that in view of the Assembly elections, 2023, a virtual meeting of all the flying squad teams and district officers of the Excise Department was taken by Special Secretary cum Commissioner Excise Shri Mahadev Kavre on 11th November and 14th November. In the meeting, the Commissioner of Income has given instructions to all the officers to identify areas related to illegal liquor manufacturing, collection, sale, distribution and transportation in their respective charge areas and to carry out intensive raids to stop them. Intensive search operations will also be carried out in the border areas of the state, excise check posts will be operated, effective investigation and CCTV will be installed. Keeping in mind the assembly elections, instructions have been given to the officers to check the vehicles meticulously in all the check posts, especially in the border check posts adjoining Orissa, Jharkhand and Maharashtra, especially in Mahasamund, Bastar, Jashpur, Raigarh and undivided Rajnandgaon districts. He has also given instructions to all the officers to conduct surprise checks in the warehouses of transporters and the bags of delivery boys (Amazon, Zomato).
The Excise Commissioner has said that in such liquor shops in the state, liquor has been sold more than 30 percent of the average sale during the last one month. They were examined meticulously and CCTV. The recordings are being regularly checked. In the last three days, more than 150 liquor shops have been inspected by the excise staff. In many cases, departmental staff as well as officers from other agencies have been involved in the investigation.
