Explosion in explosive manufacturing factory in Nagpur
Nagpur. Two days after the devastating explosion at the Solar Industries India Limited factory in Nagpur’s Bazargaon, investigators have recovered body parts of some of the nine people killed in the accident. Officials gave this information on Tuesday. Those recovered included four torsos, some limbs and other body parts of the nine victims – six women and three men – who were almost torn to pieces in the devastating blast that occurred on Sunday morning.
An official said human body parts, most of which were burnt, caked in mud and unidentified, were found within a radius of more than 100 meters from the factory premises where the blast occurred. Several pieces were also recovered from the debris of the damaged factory premises and surrounding areas and some parts had fallen about 100 meters away from the blast site.
The state government has ordered an inquiry into the incident and the investigation is being conducted by Nagpur Collectorate, Kondhali Police and Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation. Till now the police has arrested Supervisor P.D. Statement has been recorded. Ambole said he and other colleagues were working in the morning shift at the cast booster house, where the blast occurred around 8.45 am.
The impact of the explosion was so powerful that its sound was heard several kilometers away and many nearby houses shook, causing residents to come out in fear. Soon after the factory blast, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, opposition leaders and other representatives visited the area and ordered rescue and relief operations. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of each deceased, while the company will also give Rs 20 lakh.
Leader of opposition in the Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar, former minister Anil Deshmukh of the Nationalist Congress Party-SP, Kishore Tiwari of Shiv Sena-UBT and other leaders demanded compensation of at least Rs 50 lakh for the families of the nine victims killed in the tragedy. Meanwhile, the local administration’s temporary plan to carry out mass cremation of unidentified body parts has been opposed by relatives of the victims, following which the police are considering taking samples of relatives for DNA analysis.
