Explosion in firecracker factory, two killed

Chennai (IANS). A firecracker manufacturing unit exploded in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district on Tuesday. Two laborers died in this explosion.

Virudhunagar police and fire and rescue services rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation. According to media reports, the identity of the laborers is yet to be ascertained.

‘Sivakasi’ in Virudhunagar district is the firecracker capital of South India. The industry employs over eight lakh workers and has an annual turnover of Rs 6,000 crore.
