Explosion in Sivakasi firecracker factory, 2 killed
Chennai (IANS) | Two people were killed and two others injured in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing factory in Tamil Nadu’s Sivakasi on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as V. Thangavelu, 55, and P. Karuppuswamy, 28. Both the deceased are residents of Idaiyankulam village in Virudhunagar district.
Meanwhile, 54-year-old Karuppammal and 45-year-old Marithai, who were injured in the accident, have been admitted to the government hospital in Sivakasi for treatment.
The unit is owned by Praveenraj and has a license from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation. Police said the incident took place when the workers were making firecrackers in the shed and Karuppuswamy and Thangavel grounds were filling chemicals to make the chakra. During this, both the laborers died on the spot due to the explosion.
