Fake IMFL unit busted in Odisha’s Koraput

Kotpad: The Excise Department busted a counterfeit Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) manufacturing unit in Koraput district on Sunday night, seizing the fake liquor and packaging material worth over ₹20 lakh, officials said.
Following specific intelligence input, a raid was conducted at an abandoned house along Jail Road in the Bandhguda area. The operation was carried out on the instructions of Koraput Excise Superintendent Arun Kumar Padhi. Flying Squad Officer Chandrashekhar Padiyami, Excise Officers Shrikant Das (Jaipur), and Niladri Bihari Mishra (Kotpad) were part of the raiding party. The seized items included 1,545.36 liters of spurious liquor packed in 170 cartons, 15,847 bottles of various brands including Royal Stag, RC Whisky, Sterling, MC, and Goa Special, 20 liters of spirit, three bottles of essence, and 20 liters of blended spirit.
The unit was allegedly being run by two brothers, Amit Gupta and Pankaj Gupta, from Malcha Mal village in Murthahandi panchayat, who were allegedly supplying spurious liquor in Kotpad and parts of neighbouring Chhattisgarh for a long time, officials said.
