Farmer troubled by electricity department got justice, hearing held in Consumer Commission
Jagdalpur: The electricity department sent a wrong bill to a farmer in Jagdalpur. Instead of investigating, the department disconnected the connection. The farmer complained about this to the District Consumer Commission. While hearing in favor of the farmer, the Commission has ordered the Electricity Department to pay compensation of Rs 1.25 lakh and a fine of Rs 10 thousand.
Advocate couple Kishore Tiwari, resident of Jagdalpur, had taken electricity connection for 3 HP pump from the electricity department. The electricity department had given an erroneous electricity bill of Rs 15080 to the applicant. The applicant had earlier complained about this to the department. After which the Electricity Board, without investigating the matter, disconnected the electric connection of the applicant’s pump. Due to which the applicant suffered a loss of about Rs. 1.25 lakh in the crop. After which the farmer complained about this matter to the district consumer.
While issuing the order, the joint bench of District Consumer Commission Chairman Sujata Jaiswal and member Alok Kumar Dubey said that the Electricity Department had given an erroneous bill to the applicant. Due to which the applicant has suffered a crop loss of approximately Rs. 1.25 lakh. Along with the erroneous electricity bill amount of Rs 15,080, the electricity department should also pay a fine of Rs 10,000 to the applicant.
