Female Navy Agniveer trainee dies by suicide, investigation continues
Mumbai: A 20-year-old woman, who was undergoing training for Agniveer in the Navy, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself on Tuesday. According to an official, the woman was undergoing training at INS Hamla at the time of the incident. Mumbai Police said Malvani police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and are taking further action. The deceased has been identified as Aparna Nair.
According to her roommate, when she returned to her room and knocked repeatedly on the door, Nair apparently did not respond. Later, she informed other girls and hostel staff who broke the door and found Nair’s body there. After getting information about this incident, Navy doctors were called who examined the girl and declared her dead.
Details reveal reason for suicide
According to sources, Aparna was in a love affair with someone and as that relationship did not go well, she committed suicide by hanging herself with the help of a bedsheet. However, there are no reports of investigation or detention of her boyfriend in connection with this case.

Agniveer is the term used for soldiers recruited under the Agneepath scheme. This scheme was announced on 14 June 2022.
Agneepath Yojana is the only way to serve in the army. Under the plan, soldiers serve for four years, including six months of training and 3.5 years of deployment. After retirement, they can apply to remain in the armed forces.
