Trump praises Machado for awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize
US President Donald Trump has responded to the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. Trump thanked Machado and described the gesture as a wonderful sign of mutual respect.
Machado met with Trump at the White House in the US for about an hour. Speaking to Anantham Media, Machado said that he presented the Nobel Peace Prize he received to Trump. But he did not clarify whether Trump received the award or not. However, Trump responded to this through his social media account. He said that he considered it a great honor to meet Machado. He praised her as a very great woman. He revealed that she came to him and presented me with the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of the work I am doing. He described it as a wonderful sign of mutual respect. He thanked Machado.
Earlier, after meeting with Trump, Machado told the media that he had presented the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump. On this occasion, he cited a historical event. He recalled that the French military officer Marquis de Lafayette, who played a key role in the American struggle for independence, presented a medal to the liberator of Venezuela, Simon Bolivar. He commented that after two centuries, the award is being returned to the person whom the people of Bolivar consider to be Washington’s successor. Machado said that he presented the Nobel Peace Prize to Trump in recognition of his efforts for the welfare of the Venezuelan people. He said that he has confidence in Trump’s efforts to achieve freedom for the Venezuelan people. He said that he understands the suffering faced by the Venezuelan people.
The Norwegian Nobel Institute said that according to the rules of the Nobel Committee, the award cannot be transferred or shared with anyone else. However, it made it clear that the prize can be given to someone else, but the winner’s name will remain in history forever.
