Fire breaks out at Trinamool worker’s house, election looms

The heat in East Midnapore is heating up again ahead of the elections. The fire incident at the house of a Trinamool worker has created a sensation in the area. Trinamool has blamed the BJP for the incident late on Friday night. The opposition camp is reluctant to accept the allegations. However, the area is bustling with activity over this incident on Saturday as well.

Kalyan Das alias Mithu, a resident of Gorahar Jalpai village of Janka gram panchayat in Khejuri-2 block, is known as a Trinamool activist in the area. For the past few days, Kalyan had been campaigning from the front row for Trinamool candidate Rabin Chandra Mandal in that area. It is alleged that due to this, Kalyan came under the evil eye of BJP leaders and activists of the area.

It is alleged that someone set fire to Kalyan’s house on Friday night. A member of Kalyan’s family fell ill in the fire. He was admitted to Janaka Hospital. Kalyan’s mud house, a straw hut, allegedly burned down. If the people of the neighborhood had not come and put out the fire, everything would have been over, the family claims.

Trinamool claims that the BJP was repeatedly threatening the area. BJP-backed miscreants set Kalyan’s house on fire. However, no complaint was filed with the police station. Trinamool candidate for Khejuri assembly seat Rabin Chandra Mondal said, “They are attacking in this way after realizing their defeat. It will not help. The people of Khejuri are with Trinamool.”
