First supply of Restora low carbon aluminum reaches India
Bhubaneswar: Vedanta Aluminum has shipped its first domestic supply of Restora, the country’s first low-carbon ‘green’ aluminium, to Global Aluminum Pvt Ltd. Ltd., a leading Aluminum Extrusion company based in Telangana.
Vedanta, the largest aluminum producer in India, will supply 300 MT of Restora billets to Global Aluminium.
The agreement is an important milestone towards decarbonizing its value chain, and will be executed through Vedanta Aluminum’s mega smelter located in Jharsuguda, Odisha.
Vedanta Aluminum is the first company in India to offer low carbon aluminum to a global customer base, branded as Restora and Restora Ultra (ultra-low carbon aluminium).
Restora, manufactured using renewable energy, is produced with a greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity equivalent to 4 tonnes of CO2 per tonne of aluminum manufactured, which is the global threshold for aluminum to be considered as a low carbon footprint.
Restora Ultra, made from aluminum obtained from slag (a by-product of aluminum smelting), has an even lower carbon footprint, close to zero, and one of the lowest in the world.
The supply agreement will see Global Aluminum deploy Restora billets supplied by Vedanta Aluminum in various extrusion profiles with in-house value addition including anodizing processes, aluminum powder coating processes and precision machining facilities. The final products will meet customized applications in a wide range of industries including automotive, electrical and electronics, building, construction and architecture, aeronautics, air handling, renewable industries, defence, automation and others.
