First validation flight lands at Bhogapuram international airport

Amaravati: The first validation flight successfully landed at Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. The milestone marks a major step toward the airport’s planned commercial launch in mid-2026.
The flight, operated on an Air India Airbus A320, arrived from New Delhi, carrying officials to test the airport’s readiness. The landing assessed the 3.8‑kilometre runway, navigation aids, air traffic control systems, and passenger handling facilities.
Senior government officials, including representatives from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, were on board to observe the airport’s operational capabilities.
As per reports, the construction of the Greenfield airport is mostly complete. Terminal buildings, ATC towers, and support infrastructure are now in the final stages of finishing. Authorities are conducting trials to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards required for civil aviation operations.
Once operational, the Bhogapuram International Airport is expected to boost connectivity for North Andhra Pradesh, reducing travel time to major Indian cities and supporting economic development in the region. Officials anticipate that regular commercial flights could begin by mid-2026, offering services for both domestic and potential international routes.
The successful landing highlights that Bhogapuram Airport is now ready for the final phase of testing and certification, paving the way for its integration into India’s aviation network and providing a modern gateway for travelers in the region.
