Flood in Rajnandgaon, Khairagarh and Mohla-Manpur, district administration on alert
Rajnandgaon: The situation in the district has gone out of control due to torrential rains. The rain that started late Monday evening continued till Tuesday morning. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in the next 24 hours. Water is being released as the condition of the barrages in Rajnandgaon district is more than the prescribed capacity. Shivnath is in spate. Not only in Rajnandgaon, but also in Khairagarh and Mohla-Manpur areas, rivers and streams are overflowing due to torrential rains. Due to this, many villages have become islands.
A large amount of water is being released in Ghumaria, Khatutola, Sukhanala including the Mongra reservoir of the district. Shivnath has gone mad due to the release of one lakh cusecs of water from the Mongra reservoir. Similarly, 20 thousand cusecs of water is being released from Ghumaria, 21 thousand from Khatutola and 43 thousand cusecs from Sukhanala. All the gates of these barrages have been opened. After the release of water from Khatutola barrage, water has entered the houses including many villages of Chichola area. Due to heavy rains, the inflow of water from the catchment area in the barrage and reservoir has increased.
Meanwhile, many areas of Rajnandgaon city are also flooded. A kutcha house located in Rajiv Nagar has collapsed. Due to the fast flow of Shivnath, the old bridge at Mohra has completely submerged in water, while a fast flow of about 3 feet of water is visible from the new bridge. The situation in the coastal areas has become dangerous. The villages on the banks of Shivnath have been put on high alert.
It is being told that this rain system is very strong. The danger of heavy rain will remain for the next 24 hours. The villages have suffered the most damage due to the water being released from the dam-barrage. People’s lives have been completely affected as water has entered even the concrete houses. Although people’s lives have been badly affected by the torrential rain, but the rain is considered good for agriculture.
