Food department takes major action against black marketing of LPG cylinders, seizes 363 cylinders

Bilaspur: As part of a special campaign launched by the Food Department to curb the illegal storage and black marketing of LPG cylinders in the district, a major operation was carried out on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The department’s team conducted a raid near Muktidham, near the Madhuban and Dayalband areas of the city, and seized a large quantity of domestic gas cylinders and related equipment. Food Controller Amrit Kujur stated that 100 14.2 kg LPG cylinders, 263 5 kg gas cylinders, stove burners, regulators in 8 sacks, 6 cartons, and 25 loose pressure valves (in bundles of 5) were seized. All these items were illegally stored and were intended for black marketing. Necessary legal action was taken on the spot after seizing all the items. Amrit Kujur stated that this campaign is continuing to ensure a transparent and smooth LPG distribution system in the district. So far, a total of over 310 cylinders have been seized in eight cases.
The ongoing crackdown has created panic among illegal traders. The Food Controller appealed to citizens not to worry about any rumors or black marketing. All 35 gas agencies in the district have ample availability of LPG cylinders. Citizens can easily obtain them by booking according to the prescribed rates and regulations. He clarified that strict action will be taken against those involved in black marketing or illegal storage. Department teams are continuously monitoring and investigating. Raids will be conducted immediately upon receiving any complaint.
This action also sent a clear message that the administration will not allow illegal traders to be spared and that the supply of LPG in the district will remain safe, smooth, and transparent. Amrit Kujur said that public cooperation is also crucial to the success of this campaign. People should immediately report any suspicious activity to the Food Department so that timely action can be taken. This initiative by the Food Department will maintain regulation and discipline in the supply of LPG in Bilaspur district. Similar special campaigns will be conducted in the coming days to successfully prevent any illegal activities.
