Food safety reforms: FSSAI joins hands with Brazil’s MAPA

Business Business: The government on Sunday announced that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will work with the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) to improve food safety through joint projects and technical collaboration. The memorandum was signed during the World Summit on Food Regulation in the capital in 2024 and marks the beginning of a new phase of collaboration between the two countries.

FSSAI CEO G. Kamala Vardhan Rao said the move “reflects our commitment to food safety and our continued efforts to strengthen international collaboration in the field of food safety”. “We look forward to working with MAPA to achieve shared goals and strengthen food security for both countries,” Rao said. Representatives from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock announced that this is a turning point in bilateral relations in the field of food safety, strengthening institutional collaboration and advancing joint initiatives through technical collaboration and knowledge exchange experience.

Meanwhile, FSSAI under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare also held a bilateral meeting with the Bhutan Food and Drug Administration (BFDA) at the summit. The meeting focused on the implementation of the agreement signed between India and BFDA during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in March.
