A delegation of former MLAs representing the Scheduled Caste community met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan today.
Members of the delegation led by former minister Dr DK Manyal discussed with the Lieutenant Governor the efforts of the UT administration for the all-round development of the SC community.
He expressed his gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir administration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Lieutenant Governor for ensuring social justice, empowerment of women, youth and socio-economic upliftment of the community.
The delegation apprised the Lieutenant Governor on various welfare issues of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community including reservation in promotions; Comprehensive transfer policy for Jammu based SC employees posted in Kashmir, increase in reservation quota and reservation of one Lok Sabha seat for the SC community in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
He also raised the issue of compensation for all owners of land located beyond the defense wire on the India-Pakistan border in the Union Territory; Extension of land ownership rights and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi benefits to PoJK refugees, displaced persons and West Pakistan refugees.
The Lieutenant Governor assured the former MLAs of appropriate redressal of the issues and demands raised by them during the talks.
Dr KL Bhagat, Professor GR Bhagat, Neelam Langeh, Kuldeep Kumar – former MLA and Dharminder Kumar, DDC member were present.
Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor met the delegation of Other Backward Class (OBC) society.
The delegation, comprising political leaders and prominent citizens, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Jammu and Kashmir administration for reservation in urban local bodies (ULBs) and panchayats in the Union Territory.
This is the first time that OBCs will get reservation for democratic representation at the grassroots level.
Sunil Prajapati, Jammu and Kashmir President BJP OBC Morcha; Rash Pal Verma, National Secretary BJP OBC Morcha; Rajkumar Tarkhan, General Secretary OBC Morcha; OBC Morcha general secretary Sajjad Kumar from Kulgam; Retired Brigadier Vijay Sagar Dhiman; Former Sarpanch Ramesh Kumar and other members of the community were present during the conversation.
