Beirut/Jerusalem: Four Hezbollah militants were killed and four others were wounded during clashes with Israeli forces on the Lebanon-Israel border.
Lebanese internal security forces sources told Xinhua that the militants were attacked by Israeli drones. Eight missiles were fired at Wadi Khansa town, Kafarham village and Bastar Farm in the southeast on Monday morning and afternoon. Sources said the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) negotiated with Israel to stop the bombing and allow the Lebanese Red Cross to reach the victims and take them to the Marjioun government hospital.
According to the sources, Israeli artillery shelled Kfarchouba, Rashaya al-Fakhr villages and the outskirts of Jabal Sadana area in south-eastern Lebanon. Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed it attacked Misgav Am, a settlement in northern Israel, and the Al-Abad site over the border in south-east Lebanon with guided missiles and artillery shells.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it carried out several strikes on Hezbollah posts in Lebanon on Monday night, including a military compound, a military checkpoint and an observation post in southern Lebanon used by the militants. “The strikes were carried out today in response to rocket and anti-tank missile launches from Lebanese territory,” the IDF said late Monday.
A spokesman for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Monday that more than 19,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon due to border tensions and that number is expected to increase as violence escalates.
According to IOM, most of the displaced have moved to southern Lebanon with their family members. In contrast, others took refuge in three schools in Lebanon’s southern city of Tyre, which have been converted into shelter centers.
Tensions along the Lebanese–Israeli border began when Hezbollah fired several rockets on October 8 toward Israeli military sites in support of Hamas’ attack on the Jewish state on October 7. In response, Israeli forces heavily shelled southeastern Lebanon the same day.
