Fratesi’s late winner helps Inter edge past Udinese
ROME: Inter Milan took another step towards their 20th Serie A title as they beat Udinese 2-1 on Monday, with Davide Fratesi scoring the last-gasp winner.
The Nerazzurri dominated the game from the start, but it was the home side who broke the deadlock with a stroke of luck in the 40th minute, when Lazar Samardzic’s strike deflected slightly and into the net, allowing Yann Sommer to land. But fell. Xinhua reported.
Carlos Augusto thought he had equalized for Inter straight after the break, but missed it due to Lautaro Martínez’s offside position when flicking the ball.
But Inter finally got back to level in the 55th minute when Marcus Thuram earned the spot-kick, and Hakan Calhanoglu stepped up to convert it.
Inter continued to press and it paid off in the final minutes when Lautaro’s effort hit the woodwork and Fratesi was alert to tap it into the net.
With the win, Inter top the table with 82 points, 14 points ahead of second-placed AC Milan with 7 rounds remaining.
