Free rides on Chennai Metro for the CSK vs LSG match at Chepauk

Chennai, May 9:
Cricket fans attending the IPL 2026 match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) can enjoy free travel on the Chennai Metro Rail this Sunday.
According to Chennai Metro Rail Limited, IPL match tickets will serve as free metro travel passes between all operational metro stations and the Government Estate Metro Station near the stadium. Fans can easily enter and exit by scanning both digital and physical tickets at the AFC gates.
Each match ticket is valid for one free round trip, allowing two entries and two exits. Metro services will operate according to the regular Sunday schedule, ensuring a smoother journey for spectators traveling to and from the match.
This initiative is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion around Chepauk and encourage public transport use during the IPL season. Officials believe this move will enhance the overall match day experience for fans. Meanwhile, the CMRL has reported an increase in ridership, with the Chennai Metro recording 9.018 million passengers in April, reflecting the growing preference for metro rail as a reliable and efficient mode of transport in Chennai.
