G Prasad Kumar unanimously elected Speaker of the 3rd Telangana Assembly

Hyderabad: Vikarabad MLA G Prasad Kumar has been unanimously elected Speaker of the 3rd Telangana Assembly with the support of MLAs from all parties. He is the first Dalit Speaker of the Telangana Assembly. Provisional President Akbaruddin Owaisi said that he has filed nomination only for this post. He said in the chamber on Thursday that his candidature was proposed by 23 members including Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS). Before announcing the election of the new President, the President Pro-Tem administered the oath to the delegates who did not attend the 9 December ceremony. Extending his best wishes to the newly elected Portwose, Minister Principal A Revanth Reddy appreciated members of all parties including BRS, AIMIM and CPI for the unanimous election of Portwose. He said the members also indirectly expressed their support for the elections. Let us tell you that Portwoz started his political career by working as MPTC, then Mandal Praja Parishad, MLA and Textile Manual Minister. Congratulating Portwose, BRS acting president KT Rama Rao said that when Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu sought BRS’s support for Portwose’s unanimous election, BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao thought twice. He immediately accepted the offer. The new President is expected to protect the values established by his predecessors Madhusudan Chari and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy in the Telangana Assembly. AIMIM MLA Ahmed Bin Balala, CPI MLA K Sambasiva Rao and other members of Congress and BRS congratulated the President. BJP members reached the chamber shortly after G Prasad Kumar assumed charge as the new president. The President presented the decision before the BJP MLAs. Addressing the delegates the President expressed his support to all parties for their unanimous election. He said, regardless of party, all members will get ample opportunities to express their views and speak on people’s issues. “Take cooperation of all members so that the Assembly can be run without problems and in an efficient manner,” Prasad Kumar said. The Assembly meeting has been adjourned at 11.30 am on Friday for Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan’s speech to all members, including the Legislative Council. At present the cabinet meeting is being held in the assembly premises.
